NBS TV and Million Trees International Partnering to Restore Uganda's Forests
Today, NBS TV has taken another significant step by joining forces with Million Trees International (MTI) in an ambitious partnership to restore 50 hectares of forest land in the Kasyoha Kitomi Central Forest Reserve.
NBS TV has long been committed to environmental sustainability, leveraging its platform to champion initiatives that foster sustainable development across Uganda. Under its “15 Million Trees” campaign—a hallmark of the Taasa Obutonde (Save the Environment) program—NBS TV aims to contribute to reforestation by planting millions of trees.

The partnership focuses on increasing Uganda’s forest cover through tree planting on the National Forestry Authority (NFA)-designated land. This commitment aligns with Uganda’s leadership in Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and is crucial for Uganda’s climate resilience efforts, particularly following the loss of over 68,300 hectares of natural forests in 2023 alone.
Dr. Jibril Semakura Owomugisha, Founding Director of Million Trees International and Uganda's Representative to UN Decade on Ecosystem Restoration 2021/30, highlighted the impact of forest loss on the nation’s ecosystem. "While Uganda is working to restore 24% of its forest cover to pre-1990 levels, partnerships like the one with NBS TV are crucial to achieving these goals," Dr. Owomugisha noted.
NBS TV’s Deputy Group CEO, Joe Kigozi, emphasized the impact of the "15 Million Trees" campaign: "Our goal is to inform and transform society, and climate action is at the heart of this mission. Through partnerships with government bodies, NGOs, and the private sector, we are dedicated to a greener Uganda."
This partnership reaffirms NBS TV’s role as a leader in sustainable media initiatives in Uganda. As they work toward their target of planting 15 million trees, the collaboration with MTI serves as an inspiring example of how media can go beyond informing audiences to actively drive solutions for climate action.
