“We are delighted to celebrate the achievements of our users and conclude this campaign on a high note. Financial inclusion is about empowering individuals to actively participate in the financial sector,” said Mark Muyobo, NCBA's Chief Executive Officer.
He further highlighted that fostering a culture of timely loan repayment was another key goal of the campaign.
By encouraging prompt loan repayments, the bank aimed to expand credit access for a broader range of customers.
Since its introduction in 2016, MoKash has played a pivotal role in providing accessible financial services such as savings, loans, and insurance through a mobile platform, making it easier for underserved populations to access essential financial tools.
Muyobo emphasized that the platform’s rapid growth is a testament to the increasing demand for convenient financial solutions. “MoKash has become an indispensable part of financial life for many people, offering quick, easy access to funds without the need for a traditional bank account,” he noted.
MoKash, a joint venture between NCBA and MTN - MoMo, has brought the power of micro-saving and micro-lending to over 500,000 users every month, making financial services available at the touch of a button. Jemimah Kariuki Njuguna, MTN - MoMo Chief Product Officer, reiterated the company’s commitment to enhancing MoKash’s offerings.
“MoKash has been a great success, and we are pleased to support our customers who use the service responsibly. We look forward to introducing new features and continuing to drive financial inclusion.”
One of the grand prize winners, Habert Opus, an agricultural officer and a Master’s student at Makerere University, shared his gratitude.
"The funds will be a great help in paying my overdue school fees, which is a huge relief. MoKash has been incredibly beneficial over the past two years, especially in times of need," he said, encouraging his peers to take advantage of the platform’s benefits.
Another winner, Kalyango Francis Kintu, was equally thrilled. A poultry farmer who has relied on MoKash since 2017, Kintu said the prize money would be a major boost for his business.
“MoKash has been a lifeline, especially during the COVID-19 pandemic. Winning this prize is a significant step forward for my business,” he added.
With NCBA and MTN continuing to innovate through MoKash, more customers are expected to benefit from the platform’s financial solutions, further bridging the gap for those previously excluded from traditional banking systems.
