Hoima City came alive over the weekend as the Tusker Lite Neon Raves made a thunderous stop in the oil-rich region, with three dance crews earning their place in the highly anticipated Kampala grand finale.

The nationwide battle dance series, organised by Tusker Lite, was officially relaunched on February 11 in Wandegeya as a bold new twist to its signature Neon Rave experience.

Known for fusing music, lights and high-voltage nightlife, the brand has this year introduced a competitive edge, setting out to discover Uganda’s best dance crew through regional battles.

Following initial Hoima auditions held on Sunday, February 15, the regional finale unfolded on Sunday, February 22 at Kats Lounge and Cafe.

The venue transformed into a glowing neon arena as six crews — Jambo Dancers, Frozen Dancers, B-Boy Dancers, Success Dancers, Wombe Dancers and City Oil Dancers — faced off for regional supremacy.

Hoima-based personalities Davis, Urban and Priscillah served as judges as the competition got underway.

From explosive breakdance routines to gritty street hip hop and classic B-boy showdowns, the crews delivered electrifying performances marked by stamina, tight choreography and raw passion.

The night underscored the depth of Uganda’s dance culture beyond the capital.

When the dust settled, Jambo Dancers emerged victorious, impressing judges with crisp synchronisation, sharp transitions and commanding stage presence — a polished performance that sealed their win.

City Oil Dancers finished as first runners-up, while Success Dancers secured the second runners-up slot. All three crews have now qualified for the grand finale in Kampala.

Although they did not make the top three, Frozen Dancers left a strong impression on the audience. Donning Joker-inspired makeup reminiscent of characters from the Batman universe, the group blended theatrical choreography with fearless stage presence, delivering one of the most creative performances of the night.

Their act highlighted how dance can be both technical and deeply narrative.

The Hoima leg once again demonstrated that Tusker Lite Neon Raves is more than a party. By taking the battle dance series upcountry, the brand is spotlighting regional talent and offering young creatives a national platform to showcase their artistry.

Speaking about the revamped concept, the Tusker Lite Brand Manager said the competition is designed to amplify youth culture.

“Neon Rave has always been about bold self-expression, but this year we wanted to take it a step further by giving young creatives a competitive platform. Dance is one of the strongest forms of youth culture in Uganda, and through this battle series, we’re not just hosting parties — we’re discovering, empowering and celebrating the next generation of dance talent across the country. Hoima has set the bar incredibly high,” the manager said.

With Hoima raising the stakes, the road to Kampala promises even fiercer battles and electric performances.

The Tusker Lite Neon Raves now heads to Masaka on March 5, with auditions for the region’s top dance crews scheduled for this Sunday.
