Talitwala Judith, a widow who has liv d with HIV for 30 years and the founder of Buwenda women development group a local crafts group, expressed her frustration with the lack of support.
Despite their determination to become self-sufficient, the group's production remained rudimentary and limited due to outdated and unsafe equipment.
However when the Busoga kingdom intervened to offer the much-needed support, a glimmer of hope appeared. Through the efforts of the kyabazinga and the first deputy prime minister, Hon. Rebecca Alitwala Kadaga, the monarchy was able to react to the women's requests and get a large grant from the Turkish government, as recounted by the minister of tourism, Hellen Namutamba.
Dr. Abubakar Byangu delivered the consignment of equipment, valued at Shs 700 million, which includes an industrial button-making machine.
This significant investment aims to equip the women with the tools they need to produce high-quality products and improve their livelihoods.
Among the beneficiaries is Roho Uganda, a non-profit organization that has been supporting young mothers in Busoga.
The organization received a multimillion soap-making machine and a pads-making machine, which will enable them to produce essential hygiene products for distribution in schools and to mothers in need.
The Busoga kingdom's initiative is a testament to their commitment to the well-being of their citizens. By providing economic empowerment to widows and women living with HIV, the kingdom is helping these individuals overcome adversity and build a brighter future for themselves and their families.
