IUEA partners with CNOOC to give students practical knowledge in oil, gas

The Faculty of Engineering at the International University of East Africa (IUEA), in collaboration with CNOOC Uganda Limited and the IUEA SPE Student Chapter will later today host a seminar discussion focused on seismic activity and reservoir modelling in the oil and gas sector.
The seminar, which takes place today in Smart Classroom 2 at the university in Kansanga, will feature topics including geological reservoir modeling using stochastic simulation with a case study on Kingfisher oil field in Western Uganda and reservoir characterization using seismic data.

According to officials, this free event will help provide with practical learning opportunities and access to industry leaders.
“Students, professionals, and enthusiasts are invited to delve into the cutting-edge methods of reservoir modeling and characterization that are shaping the petroleum engineering industry. Our goal is to bridge the gap between academia and the industry,” said a representative from the Faculty of Engineering.
“Through partnerships like this with CNOOC Uganda Limited and the SPE Student Chapter, we ensure our students learn from and network with industry experts, giving them an edge in their professional journeys.”
Officials said participants will gain valuable insights from case studies like the Kingfisher oil field, which plays a pivotal role in Uganda's burgeoning oil and gas sector.
The seminar will also emphasize how seismic data is being utilized to revolutionize reservoir analysis, enabling more accurate predictions and efficient resource extraction.
Previously, the International University of East Africa (IUEA) hosted the first annual oil and gas expo last year.
Executed under the theme of “Unveiling the careers and training opportunities in the Oil and Gas sector in Uganda,” the event attracted different companies from the oil and gas industry who were in attendance to engage with students from various universities in the country.
The aim of the event was to create awareness about the oil and gas industry and to provide a platform for students to interact with professionals in the field.
IUEA has established a prominent presence in the realm of innovation and engineering, substantiating its reputation as a leader in the field.
This can be evidenced by the paper recycling tech created to save 19 trees per metric ton.
With their Bachelor of Science in Petroleum Engineering, graduates can expect lucrative career opportunities. Petroleum engineers are among the highest-paid professionals, depending on experience and location.
The discovery of oil reserves in Uganda has unlocked vast opportunities in the petroleum engineering sector, poised to transform the country's economy.
With an estimated 6.5 billion barrels of oil reserves, Uganda is expected to become a significant player in the global oil market.
This has created a high demand for skilled petroleum engineers, technicians, and professionals to manage the exploration, production, and refining processes.
As a result, Ugandan youth can pursue lucrative careers in petroleum engineering, petrochemical engineering, and related fields, contributing to the country's economic growth, energy security, and infrastructure development.
