South Sudanese, Chadian crowned Mr. & Miss. IUEA

Thon Deng Thon, a South Sudanese student and Siguei Simei Francesca from Chad were on Saturday morning crowned Mr. and Miss. International University of East Africa for the year 2024.
This was during a colourful event held at the university auditorium under the theme, “Empowered and Elegant,” as the institution celebrated elegance, talent and the rich cultural diversity.

Sheba Kasande and Kuei Malek Mathiang were the first and second runners up in the Miss IUEA category while Robel Hagos Mahray and Jerome Pelham were the first and second runners up in the Mr.IUEA category.
Speaking during the function, the IUEA vice chancellor, Prof Emeka Akaezuwa described the beauty pageant as an embodiment of the values of the university.
“This event gives students an opportunity to showcase their talents in fashion and design. It also helps bring our students together in asocial way, away from the stress of books and they loosen up. We love this because we push our students to be the best in whatever area they are in. Since we are practical, this beauty pageant is an opportunity for them to loosen up and enjoy themselves,” Prof. Emeka said.
He said such activities like the beauty pageant give room to students to explore in other areas to widen their knowledge.
“You will find students doing engineering participating in fashion shows and students from all other disciplines displaying their talents.”
“As university, we focus so much on academics but also innovation and these are opportunities for our students to showcase their academic abilities.”
The IUEA guild minister for social affairs, Solomon Ibrahim Musa said the winners have automatically become brand ambassadors for the university which he said boosts their profiles.
He added that on top of becoming brand ambassadors, the winners got 100% scholarship until they complete studies as well as other rewards.
