With determination and growth, the savings group of Apolin village in Serere district has transformed a humble beginning into a thriving agricultural venture, setting an inspiring example for the entire region.

On April 28, 2017, a group of 50 dedicated women from Apolin village received a donation of shs100,000 from Serere District Woman Member of Parliament and State Minister for Fisheries, Hellen Adoa.

With prudent foresight, the group invested the funds in two pigs. Little did they know that this modest start would blossom into a remarkable success story.

Within a year, the group expanded their assets to include a cow which multiplied.

Today, they boast a farm with ten cows, fourteen sheep, and two pigs, marking a substantial increase in their livestock holdings.

For members like Jenifer Asekenye , the group’s saving practices and acquired knowledge have revolutionized her family's financial security.

"I can now manage finances in my family. I no longer struggle like before, and with our savings, we will buy more cows," she stated proudly.

Christine Apolot shared a similar sentiment, highlighting the group’s strategic decision-making.

"We started this group in 2017 when Hellen Adoa became MP. From her donation of shs100,000 , we decided to buy piglets. We rotated the piglets among the members, which allowed everyone to benefit and grow."

Irene Apolot, another member, expressed her optimistic plans for the future, fueled by the group's cooperative efforts.

"My plans are very big for the future. This has helped us a lot, especially with tuition now."

Asekenye, the savings chairperson, emphasized the group's ongoing growth and future potential, especially with a new boost of a million shillings from their MP.

"We are still growing our farm. With this new funding, we will become even stronger," she asserted.

During a recent visit, Minister Hellen Adoa praised the group for their entrepreneurial spirit, citing them as a shining example of women’s empowerment in the district. Their success story is inspiring other women in the region to explore similar ventures.

The journey of the Apolin village savings group stands as a compelling case study illustrating the potential for growth and transformation when women are empowered and supported.

Their tale is a testament to the resilience and ingenuity of women, showing how a modest investment can revolutionize lives and set a precedent for others to follow.

As the Apolin village savings group continues to thrive, their story remains a wellspring of motivation, showcasing the profound impact of economic empowerment on community development.
