A total of five police officers attached to Katwe police station in Kampala have been arraigned before the Anti-Corruption Court in Kampala and charged with several offences related to burning an office after stealing exhibits in form of money.
Assistant Inspector of Police, Apollo Kibuuka,38, Seargent Maria Nangobi, Karim Bakole, 25, Constable Moses Okello,34 and Candia Prossy Forsca, all detectives attached to Katwe Police Station were arraigned before grade one magistrate, Abert Asiimwe and charged with offences related to abuse of office, arson and conspiracy to commit a felon.
“Between the month of August and September, D/AIP Apollo Kibuuka as a police officer in abuse of authority of his office did an arbitrary act prejudicial to the interest of the Uganda Police Force in that he failed to disclose exhibit money recovered by him in the case of theft of Lato milk,” the magistrate read the charges.
Detective Constable Karim Bakole the officer in charge of exhibits at Katwe police station is accused of destroying exhibits in form of money totaling to one million shillings which was set to be used as evidence in a case of theft.
The five officers were together charged over conspiracy to commit a felon when they agreed to burn the exhibits office after stealing the one million shillings which was for exhibits to be used in a court case involving theft.
However, during proceedings, the trial magistrate was told that Candia Prossy Forsca was not around but her colleagues were released on bail.
The case was adjourned to October 8,2020 for mentioning.
The Nile Post has separately learnt that the money was recovered as exhibits in a case of theft involving Lato milk but D/AIP Apollo Kibuuka didn’t report it.
He later conspired with his colleagues to burn the exhibit office and later claim the money was also burnt in the office.
