Ntare School has announced plans to mark its 70th anniversary, with a series of activities leading up to the main celebration scheduled for July 25, 2026, at the school’s campus in Mbarara.
The anniversary comes as the institution reflects on seven decades since its founding in 1956 and its role in shaping leaders across Uganda and the region.
School leaders and alumni say the milestone presents an opportunity to reconnect former students and engage partners, while also taking stock of the school’s legacy.
“This anniversary is about reconnection and shared purpose,” said Apollo Kashanku, Chairman of the Ntare School Old Boys Association (NSOBA).
“It offers an opportunity to reflect on our proud history while engaging alumni and partners to help shape the next chapter of the Ntare story.”
He added that the commemoration is intended to look ahead as much as it reflects on the past.
“The 70-year milestone is not merely a look backward but rather a new chapter to reconnect, inspire, and collectively build our future,” he said.
Founded in 1956, Ntare School has grown into one of the country’s most prominent secondary schools, with alumni active in politics, business and public service. Among its former students are Yoweri Kaguta Museveni and Paul Kagame.
The headmaster, Rwampororo Saul, said the anniversary provides a moment to reaffirm the school’s values and strengthen ties within its community.
“Ntare has stood as a pillar of academic rigor while shaping leaders grounded in discipline, integrity, and service,” he said.
Activities planned in the lead-up to the anniversary include alumni reunions, exhibitions, mentorship sessions and storytelling forums, according to organisers.
A commemorative book titled Legacy of the Lion is also expected to be published, featuring historical accounts and reflections from former students, with alumni invited to contribute.
Organisers say the anniversary will also be used to explore partnerships aimed at supporting the school’s future development.
