Security agencies in Kiboga Town Council have arrested 11 suspects during a late-night intelligence-led operation aimed at dismantling criminal networks operating in identified hotspots across the town council.
The coordinated crackdown brought together the Police, UPDF, intelligence units, and Local Council I leaders, under the command of the Kiboga District Police Commander. The operation specifically targeted blackspots in Kabakanjagala and Katwekanjovu wards, areas that have recently been flagged for rising insecurity.
According to the Wamala Regional Police Spokesperson, Lameck Kigozi, the operation followed a surge in complaints from residents over theft, phone snatching, simple robberies, and increasing cases of substance abuse that had made parts of Kiboga Town Council unsafe.
“These operations are intended to restore public confidence and ensure that communities remain safe from criminal elements that have been terrorizing residents,” Kigozi said.
Security personnel recovered suspected narcotic substances, including marijuana and miraa, alongside various implements believed to have been used in criminal activities such as house break-ins and theft.
Police said the suspects are currently undergoing screening and interrogation to establish their level of involvement in the reported crimes. Authorities added that those found innocent will be released, while those against whom evidence is established will be charged in court.
“Those who are found innocent and not linked to any criminal activity will be released, while individuals against whom evidence is established will be taken to court,” Kigozi explained.
Officials said the intelligence-led operations will continue across Kiboga and wider parts of the Wamala Region as part of a broader strategy to combat urban crime and improve public safety.
Kigozi further stressed the importance of cooperation between security agencies, local leaders, and residents in identifying and isolating criminal elements operating within communities.
“We remain committed to ensuring a secure and conducive environment that supports both social and economic activities in Kiboga,” he added.
Residents have been urged to report suspicious individuals, drug-related activities, and known criminal hideouts to security agencies, as part of ongoing community policing efforts aimed at preventing crime before it occurs.
