Four Police Officers Among Six Remanded Over Death of Congolese National
A Kisoro court has remanded six suspects, among them four police officers, over their alleged role in the death of a Congolese national while in custody, as investigations into the case continue.

The Kisoro Chief Magistrate’s Court has remanded six suspects, including four police officers, in connection with the death of a Congolese national while in custody.

The suspects appeared before Chief Magistrate Patrick Bamuhiga on Thursday, May 15, 2026, and were charged with two separate offences.

Prosecutor Ellen Nambi told court that on May 7, 2026, Mpumuseni and Bosco allegedly caused the death of Uwimana Ntirenganya, a Congolese national, in an area between Kibyiyoni and Kagezi villages in Nyabwishenya Sub-county, Kisoro District.

The prosecution further alleged that the four officers, knowing that the civilians had committed murder, allegedly assisted them to evade arrest and escape punishment.

Investigations into the matter are ongoing.

Chief Magistrate Bamuhiga declined to take pleas from the accused, citing lack of jurisdiction, and remanded them to Kisoro Government Prison until May 28, 2026, for mention.

In a separate case, the same court remanded Ramegio Munezero, a 38-year-old private security guard and resident of Bishakyi Katojo Butare in Rubanda District, on charges of defilement.

Prosecution alleges that on April 29, 2026, at Mutorele, Munezero defiled a girl under the age of 18. He was remanded to Kisoro Prison until May 28, 2026.

Rajab Iganda Rajab, 18, a resident of Mikingo Cell in Central Division, Kisoro Municipality, was also remanded to Kisoro Prison until May 28, 2026, on charges of causing grievous bodily harm and aggravated robbery.

Court heard that Rajab allegedly assaulted Mfitumukiza Amon using a knife and stole Shs 100,000 in cash, a mobile phone, earphones, and a charger.

Chief Magistrate Bamuhiga declined to take plea from Rajab, stating that the offences are capital in nature and fall under the jurisdiction of the High Court in Kabale.
