Police Probe Sudden Death at Kabale Hotel
Police in Kabale are investigating the sudden death of Peter Zibahurire, whose body was found in a hotel room at Manhattan Hotel, with a postmortem conducted as inquiries continue into the circumstances surrounding his death.

Police in Kabale District are investigating circumstances surrounding the sudden death of a man whose body was found in a hotel room at Manhattan Hotel in Kabale Municipality.

The deceased has been identified as Peter Zibahurire, also known as Kamugisha, a male adult from Murandamo A Cell, Rubumba Parish, Kahungye Sub-county in Kabale District.

According to preliminary information, Zibahurire checked into the hotel on Sunday at around 3:00pm, saying he needed rest and intended to spend one night in town.

He is reported to have said he was in Kabale to collect medication from Kabale Regional Referral Hospital, but did not receive it and was instead advised to return the following day, prompting him to book accommodation.

His body was later discovered on Monday morning during a routine check by hotel staff.

Kigezi Region Police spokesperson Elly Maate said the discovery was made after a receptionist noticed that the room had not been locked.

“When the hotel receptionist was making a normal routine check, she established that he had not locked the door. When she entered, she found him lying dead on the bed. She alerted the manager who confirmed it and in turn reported to CPS Kabale,” Maate said.

Maate added that police, together with the police surgeon, visited the scene and conducted a postmortem to help establish the cause of death.

He said the body was later handed over to relatives for burial, while investigations continue.

Police said inquiries are underway to determine the exact cause of death.
