Police in Nansana have shut down a local entertainment venue known as DENO Bar after a bar worker was killed in what authorities describe as a brutal internal assault involving colleagues.
The deceased, identified as Mumbere, a young employee at the bar located in Nansana West A, reportedly died following injuries sustained during a late-night altercation at the establishment.
According to preliminary accounts, the incident began as a dispute among staff members before escalating into a physical confrontation that turned fatal.
Sources indicate that Mumbere was severely beaten by fellow workers during the clash. He is said to have attempted to seek urgent medical attention by claiming illness, but died before he could be transported to hospital.
Police were later alerted and intervened at the scene, taking several staff members into custody as investigations commenced.
The case has since been confirmed by police spokesperson for Kampala and surrounding areas, Rachel Kawala, who said officers have launched a homicide investigation and made arrests in connection with the incident.
Following the incident, authorities ordered the immediate closure of DENO Bar as investigations continue.
Local leaders have expressed alarm over what they describe as recurring violence linked to entertainment venues in the area.
The Nansana West A Local Council chairperson, Fred Ndaga, said the establishment has been associated with repeated disturbances and “shameful acts” involving staff and patrons.
He raised concerns about deteriorating discipline within such workplaces, warning that the community is increasingly exposed to violent incidents linked to nightlife businesses.
The incident has also triggered wider scrutiny of labour conditions within the sector, with preliminary police inquiries reportedly exploring allegations of exploitation among bar staff, including claims involving underage workers.
Authorities have urged parents and guardians to be vigilant about the employment of young people, warning against deceptive job offers that may expose them to exploitation or criminal activity.
The body of the deceased was taken to Mulago City Mortuary for post-mortem examination as investigations continue.
All suspects are being held at Nansana Police Station, where they are assisting detectives in reconstructing events leading to the fatal assault.
The tragedy adds to a growing list of violent incidents reported in entertainment venues within Nansana in recent months, raising concerns over enforcement of safety standards and regulation of nightlife establishments.
Police say investigations are ongoing and further action will follow once inquiries are concluded.
