A joint operation by the Kampala Metropolitan Police and the Uganda People’s Defence Forces has led to the arrest of a suspected gang leader and eight other suspects in a crackdown on crime in Wakiso District.
Police said the intelligence-led raids, conducted on April 14 and April 16, targeted criminal hotspots in Kasangati and Kira Municipality.
During the first operation in Mayirikiti Zone, Kasangati Town Council, officers arrested Owor Isaac, also known as “Mbolimboli,” who is suspected to be the leader of the “Kasolo” gang. He is believed to have been behind a series of house break-ins and robberies along the Matugga–Kasangati–Kawempe corridor. Several suspected accomplices were also arrested.
In a separate early-morning raid in Buwate, Najjera II, Kira Municipality, eight suspects were picked up from areas linked to narcotic drug abuse. Police said exhibits of suspected marijuana were recovered, and the suspects have since been charged and detained at Kira Division Police Station.
Kampala Metropolitan Police Deputy spokesperson Luke Owoyesigyire said the operations are part of an ongoing effort to dismantle criminal networks.
“These intelligence-led operations are aimed at disrupting criminal gangs and enhancing safety in our communities. Similar operations will continue,” Owoyesigyire said.
He urged the public to support security agencies by sharing information that could aid investigations.
“The community continues to play a vital role in identifying suspects and supporting our work,” he added.
Police said investigations are ongoing, with more updates expected as operations continue.
