Police in Mukono District have arrested a woman and some of her children over the alleged murder of their husband and father, whose body was reportedly wrapped in a sack and dumped in a pit at a local trading centre.
Charles Kiseka Tagejja, 49, a resident of Kitebe Namaliga village in Seeta–Nazigo Parish, Nakisunga Sub-county, had been missing for several days before his body was discovered.
According to residents, Kiseka’s wife, Alice Mbolanyi, allegedly attacked him with some of their children during a domestic dispute, wrapped his body in a sack, and transported it on a motorcycle before dumping it in a pit.
The couple, married in 2001, had five children and were reportedly experiencing long-standing domestic disagreements.
The body was discovered by a herdsman who noticed his cows becoming restless near the pit.
“When I went closer to check, I saw a sack inside and later found a human body in it,” he said, adding that he immediately raised an alarm that drew local residents and police from Seeta–Nazigo Police Station.
Relatives of the deceased, including his brother Edward Kayondo Sserwadda, expressed shock over the incident during the burial.
“We are deeply hurt by what has happened. We want justice for our brother and we hope investigations will reveal the truth,” Sserwadda said.
Local leaders condemned the incident, urging families to resolve conflicts peacefully. Councillor Betty Mwesigwa said, “It is unfortunate that a family disagreement has ended in such a tragic loss of life. People should seek help and mediation instead of resorting to violence.”
Seeta–Nazigo Police Station Officer in Charge Joseph Eyoku condemned the act and thanked the community for reporting it.
“We appreciate the community members who alerted the police. Investigations are ongoing to establish the exact circumstances under which the deceased lost his life,” Eyoku said.
Meanwhile, Kampala Metropolitan Police spokesperson Rachel Kawala confirmed that investigations are underway and that the suspects remain in custody.
“We have begun investigations into the suspected murder and the suspects are currently in custody as inquiries continue,” she said.
