Police at Lubowa have announced that they have registered a significant breakthrough in the fight against motorcycle robberies following the arrest of five suspects believed to be behind a series of robberies reported in the area.
According to Racheal Kawala, the Kampala Metropolitan Police spokesperson, the five have been behind the series of motorcycle robbries in Lubowa and Ndejje areas between June 2025 and 6th March 2026.
"On 05.03.2026 an intelligence-led operation was subsequently conducted, leading to the arrest of the key suspect in Kyengera Town Council. Upon his arrest, he led investigators to the arrest of his accomplices," Kawala said.
She said, so far, five suspects have been arrested and one motorcycle, registration number UMA 663HM, has been recovered as an exhibit.
"Preliminary investigations reveal that an estimated 40 motorcycles have been stolen since June 2025 to date within the affected areas.The suspects reportedly rob the motorcycles, dismantle them, and sell the parts ."
Police said a total of 14 victims have so far been identified in connection with the robberies.
"Efforts are ongoing to arrest additional suspects and other individuals believed to be facilitating or promoting these criminal activities. Investigations into the matter are still ongoing."
The arrest is part of the ongoing police operations targeting criminal gangs that have been terrorising several areas within the Greater Kampala Metropolitan Area where the crime rate has gone up in the past three or so month.
