Police in Nabilatuk District have launched investigations into the fatal shooting of a 38-year-old peasant who was attacked by unknown assailants at his home shortly after returning from a drinking spot in the early hours of January 3, 2026.

Police in Nabilatuk District are investigating the fatal shooting of a 38-year-old man who was killed by unknown assailants in the early hours of January 3, 2026.

The deceased has been identified as Achiya Paul, a peasant and resident of Welthunger Village in Nabilatuk Sub-county. He was shot dead in his compound at about 12:57 a.m., according to police.

Preliminary findings indicate that Achiya had just returned home from his nephew’s residence, where he had been drinking, when he was attacked. He was reportedly shot once from the front, below the chest, and died shortly after the incident.

Police said they responded to the shooting shortly after it was reported and immediately dispatched a team of investigators to the scene to begin inquiries.

Karamoja Regional Police Spokesperson Mike Longole confirmed that statements have been recorded from several witnesses as investigations continue.

“We responded promptly to the incident and a team was deployed to the scene,” Longole said. “Statements have been recorded, and further investigations are ongoing to establish the circumstances surrounding the murder.”

The body of the deceased was taken to Nabilatuk Health Centre IV for a postmortem examination as police intensify efforts to identify and track down the perpetrators.

Authorities have appealed to members of the public to cooperate with security agencies by providing any information that could help bring those responsible to justice.
