Two Juveniles Killed in Luuka Hit-and-Run Incident
Preliminary investigations by Luuka Central Police Station indicate that the vehicle, reportedly speeding from Ikonia toward Nawampiti, lost control and hit the cyclist coming from the opposite direction.

Police in Luuka District have launched a manhunt for a motorist who fled the scene after a fatal road accident that claimed the lives of two children on Wednesday morning.

The crash occurred around 10am in Kasozi Village, along the Ikonia–Nawampiti Road.

A blue Isuzu Elf truck, registration number UAW 081M, collided with a pedal cyclist transporting two juveniles.

Preliminary investigations by Luuka Central Police Station indicate that the vehicle, reportedly speeding from Ikonia toward Nawampiti, lost control and hit the cyclist coming from the opposite direction.

The impact killed the two passengers on the spot. The deceased have been identified as Phillip Waigolo, 13, and Purity Malinzi, 8.

The driver abandoned the vehicle at the scene and remains at large. Police have secured the truck, which is now pending inspection by the Inspector of Vehicles (IOV).

The bodies of the children were taken to Kiyunga Health Centre IV for postmortem examinations.

Busoga North Region Police spokesperson, SSP Samson Lubega, said inquiries are ongoing to track down the suspect and establish the full circumstances of the crash.

He extended condolences to the families and urged motorists to respect speed limits, especially in areas with high pedestrian and cyclist activity.

“We appeal to all road users to exercise maximum caution on the roads. Reckless driving continues to claim innocent lives,” Lubega said.

Police have asked anyone with information about the driver or the incident to report to the nearest police station.
