UMSC dismisses forged court order , warns of legal action

The Uganda Muslim Supreme Council (UMSC) has dismissed a fabricated court order that falsely claims the retirement of Sheikh Shaban Ramadhan Mubaje, the Mufti of Uganda.

The forged document, dated May 7, 2024, was allegedly issued in HCMA No. 541 of 2024, in the case of Umar Ssewante and others versus UMSC(formerly Jinja High Court Miscellaneous Application No. 23 of 2024)

In a press statement released on Thursday, September 19, UMSC Secretary General Hadji Abbas Muluubya Ssekyanzi clarified that a thorough search within the Judiciary revealed no such court order exists.

Muluubya added that UMSC is awaiting an official statement from the Judiciary to confirm these findings.

The fraudulent document has been circulated by an individual identified as Issah Gule, who has been falsely presenting himself as the interim Chairman of UMSC.

Gule claimed the court order had retired the Mufti, a move Muluubya described as an attempt to sow confusion and unrest within the Muslim community.

“These are baseless claims aimed at destabilizing the community,” Muluubya stated.

He condemned the circulation of the fake documents, which have reportedly been sent to government offices, embassies, and banks in an effort to freeze UMSC’s bank accounts.

UMSC has urged the public to disregard the forged documents and assured that its legal team is taking steps to pursue legal action against those responsible.

“We will not allow these malicious acts to go unpunished,” Muluubya warned, noting that UMSC remains committed to upholding peace, unity, and transparency.

As the situation unfolds, the Secretary General called on the Muslim community to remain calm and allow the legal process to take its course.
