Prudential Uganda has recognised the fourth cohort of outstanding actuarial science graduates from Makerere University under its Prudential Actuarial Support Scheme (PASS), reaffirming its commitment to developing Uganda’s next generation of insurance and financial services professionals.
The recognition took place during Makerere University’s 76th Graduation Ceremony, underscoring Prudential’s long-term investment in building local actuarial expertise in line with its purpose, “For Every Life, For Every Future.”
Launched in partnership with Makerere University, PASS is designed to nurture emerging actuarial talent through academic recognition, mentorship, internship placements, and support towards professional actuarial certification.
The initiative seeks to bridge the gap between academic achievement and professional qualification, strengthening the long-term capacity of Uganda’s insurance and broader financial services sector.
The fourth cohort of PASS awardees includes Drake Kabuye, Kalyango Edgar Allan, James Kuteesa, Joseph Tumutendereze, and Bashir Hijoma. The graduates were recognised for their strong academic performance and commitment to pursuing careers in actuarial science.
Speaking at the ceremony, Tetteh Ayitevie, Chief Executive Officer of Prudential Uganda, emphasised the importance of investing in actuarial talent to ensure a resilient and sustainable financial services industry.
He noted that actuaries play a critical role in risk management, pricing, product development, and long-term financial planning, making their expertise essential to the growth and stability of Uganda’s insurance sector.
Through PASS, Prudential Uganda continues to provide high-potential graduates with exposure to real-world industry experience while supporting their pursuit of globally recognised actuarial qualifications. The programme reflects the company’s broader commitment to human capital development and strengthening professional capacity within Uganda’s financial ecosystem.
Prof. Edward Bbaale, Principal of Makerere University’s College of Business and Management Sciences, commended Prudential Uganda for its sustained partnership, noting that initiatives such as PASS motivate students to excel academically while equipping them with the skills and professional direction required in the actuarial field.
Since its inception, the Prudential Actuarial Support Scheme has supported 19 actuarial students, contributing to the growth of a strong and expanding pool of locally trained actuarial professionals serving Uganda’s financial services sector.
