Uganda’s rich coffee heritage took the spotlight this week at a high-profile cupping event hosted at the Bamberg Tourism Center, drawing international coffee buyers, roasters, and industry enthusiasts for a firsthand experience of Uganda’s world-class Arabica and Robusta coffees.

Organized by the Uganda Embassy in Berlin in partnership with Littlefarms — a Ugandan coffee farming and export enterprise based in Nakasongola — the event aimed to promote the exceptional quality and growing global reputation of Ugandan coffee.

Representing the Uganda Embassy, Ms. Jessica Namuddu, Head of Tourism and delegate for Ambassador Stephen Mubiru, emphasized the country’s strategic focus on the coffee sector.

“Coffee is more than a commodity for Uganda — it is part of our identity, a lifeline for millions of farmers, and a bridge to international partnerships,” Namuddu said. “Uganda is determined to position itself as a global brand for quality coffee.”

The cupping session provided a platform for Littlefarms’ founder and exporter, Mr. Tom Kalyesubula, to engage directly with potential buyers, opening up new trade opportunities and strengthening Uganda’s positioning as one of Africa’s premier coffee producers.

The event also featured a collaborative tasting session led by prominent Bamberg-based roasters, including Mr. Daniel Gerlach of Seven Hills Coffee Roasters, Patrick Baer of Wicked´N´Mellow, and Alexander Gäcklein of M.A.G Roasters. Guests explored a wide range of flavor profiles, from Uganda’s bold, naturally grown Robusta to its delicate, aromatic highland Arabica.

A highlight of the day was a live latte art presentation by three-time German National Latte Art Champion and founder of 7Hills Café, Daniel Gerlach, which further captivated attendees and spotlighted the artistry behind premium coffee service.

City officials including Mr. Michael Heger, Tourism Director of Bamberg, and Mrs. Ulrike Siebenhaar, Head of the Department of World Heritage, Culture, and Tourism, commended the initiative as an important cultural and economic exchange.

They praised Uganda’s commitment to sustainable practices and its efforts to connect coffee with broader themes of heritage and tourism.

The Uganda Coffee Cupping Event in Bamberg marks a significant step in Uganda’s continued efforts to expand its presence in global markets while ensuring that each cup of Ugandan coffee contributes directly to improving livelihoods back home.
