“There is need to ensure there is a safe space as a country in terms of fire. When we have private partners coming into this space, it helps in supporting our work. This is because, many times, when we come to put out the fire, the damage caused is enormous and this happens between the time of reporting and our arrival to save the situation,” Kugonza said.

“When we have private partners come on board, it ensures the public gets more training but also where to get fire fighting equipment to help in prevention of fire outbreaks. This makes our work easier and by the time we arrive, a lot has been done in suppressing the fire.”

The Police’s deputy director made a clarion call to the public to embrace the issue of fire safety.

“Just like the going says, if you think investing in fire safety is expensive, try out a fire. People at times neglect it yet it is disastrous. I would encourage the population to embrace fire safety systems since they save a lot.”

Quality Equipment

Kothia Monishaa, the manager for Safepro Fire Services underscored the need for investing in quality equipment as a country.

“Many people at times go for cheaper fire fighting equipment which in the long run are not sustainable. What happens is that in case there is an outbreak, the fire will not be put out because the material used is not what is supposed to be used,” Monishaa said.

She explained that whereas the best option in terms of material would be dry chemical which is multipurpose extinguishers that can be used in apartments, schools, hospitals and factories, many go for cheaper options but are not effective.

Monishaa said it should not be about the price but rather quality of the firefighting equipment.

“The money-minded people will say, since you have this amount of money, I will give you this type of equipment without educating you on what would work best for you. That is how we differ from others since we also do after-sales services. We ensure we give you quality products to make sure we build a long term relationship that in future you can refer others.”

The  Safe Pro Fire Services manager said their showroom has fire safety and prevention equipment for all kinds of people.

“We also train, install, supply, annual maintenance contracts for business owners, factories, schools and institutions. We are dedicated to keep the country safe and fire free."
