Women in Bugweri Receive Agricultural Support with 3000 Hand Hoe Donation

As part of efforts to improve the livelihoods of women in Bugweri district, Iganga Resident District Commissioner (RDC) Hajj Wandera Sadala has donated over 3,000 hand hoes to help women engage in agriculture. Hajj Wandera, a local resident, also contributed UGX 20 million to support the district’s women SACCO.

The event brought together over 3,000 women from the eight sub-counties of Bugweri district at Hajj Wandera’s residence in Bubenge village, Igombe Sub-County. The gathering aimed to launch the women’s SACCO and distribute hand hoes to empower them in agricultural activities.

Hajj Wandera explained that the initiative was meant to uplift the community’s income, noting that poverty is a common issue for many residents. He said he began by supporting women, as they are essential to driving development programs.

He also pledged an additional UGX 20 million to boost the SACCO once its bank account is officially opened.

Hajjat Sofia Safina Kenyangi, National Chairperson of the Uganda Muslim Women Council and Director of Old Kampala Hospital, praised the initiative and promised to lobby for more resources, including additional hand hoes and government support to encourage development.

Deputy Mufti Sheikh Ali Waiswa urged the women to work hard to escape poverty and to support the programs introduced by RDC Wandera Sadala.

The women beneficiaries expressed their appreciation for the support and vowed to use the tools to improve their agricultural output and livelihoods.

The event was attended by several religious and political leaders from both Bugweri district and other areas.
