KABALE – President Museveni has called on residents of Kabale District to take personal responsibility for wealth creation, stressing that development will not reach homes automatically.
Speaking at a rally in Kabale on Tuesday, Museveni said that while infrastructure such as roads and electricity is important, it alone cannot eliminate poverty.
“You can have roads and electricity everywhere, but if you do not create your own wealth, poverty will stay at your doorstep,” he said.
The President recalled his long-standing connection to Kabale, noting that the fight against poverty at the household level has been a consistent theme since the 1960s.
“This is the gospel we started in the 1960s with the Rugundas here in Kabale. Even in the 1950s when I came to Butobere to play cricket, Kabale already had some tarmac, but poverty was still present,” he said.
Museveni highlighted government initiatives such as the Parish Development Model (PDM) and Emyooga fund, which aim to empower families to generate wealth, create jobs, and attract industries.
“We send funds like PDM and Emyooga to help families begin the journey of wealth creation. Wealth creates jobs and attracts industries which create even more jobs. This is the NRM vision,” he said.
He concluded by urging voters to support the ruling National Resistance Movement (NRM) in the upcoming elections.
“This is why we seek your renewed mandate, together with the other six points I will share at the press briefing tomorrow,” Museveni said.
