President Museveni ended his campaign trail in Busia District on Saturday, stressing that Uganda’s progress depends on sustaining national peace, improving health services, and helping households build real wealth beyond infrastructure development.

President Museveni has concluded his campaign in the Bukedi sub-region with a rally in Busia District, where he thanked residents for what he described as a warm and energetic welcome.

In his address, Museveni placed heavy emphasis on peace, saying Uganda’s stability is the foundation on which all other forms of progress rest.

He recalled the violence once carried out by the FOBA rebels and the Lakwena insurgency, noting that such episodes were now “history” because of the National Resistance Movement’s approach to unifying politics and national security.

“Peace didn’t happen by chance; it came from politics rooted in unity,” he told supporters, adding that stability remained the NRM’s greatest achievement.

On health services, Museveni said Busia currently has one hospital, one Health Centre IV and 14 Health Centre IIIs, with plans for more upgrades as part of ongoing government health investments.

Turning to the theme of wealth creation—Obugaga—Museveni said many Ugandans still confuse development with household income.

He explained that infrastructure such as roads, electricity and telephone networks demonstrates development, but does not automatically translate into wealth unless families actively participate in commercial agriculture, industry, services and ICT.

Using Kampala as an example, he said that while the capital boasts extensive infrastructure, individual prosperity still depends on people engaging in productive economic activity.
