Dr Batuwa Timothy Lusala, Member of Parliament for Jinja South West Constituency, has written to the Electoral Commission of Uganda raising concerns about the safety and integrity of results from the Jinja City West parliamentary election held on January 19, 2026.
In a letter dated February 13, 2026, Lusala alleged there was a deliberate attempt to tamper with sealed ballot boxes in order to alter the outcome of the election.
“I have credible information of a deliberate act of tampering with the sealed ballot boxes (63) to the effect of altering ticked ballots so as to create a window through which the runner-up candidate can use court processes to claim victory,” Lusala wrote.
He warned that the alleged scheme could compromise the integrity of the electoral process and potentially leave Electoral Commission staff unable to safeguard the results.
Lusala, who declared himself the winner alongside Madamu Nakai Etheve, said he secured victory in all six parishes by what he described as a significant margin.
He claimed there were coordinated efforts involving dishonest actors seeking access to ballot boxes and other electoral materials in order to fabricate grounds for a legal challenge.
He further alleged that the plan was intended to manufacture an alternative electoral outcome through court proceedings.
“I am inviting your esteemed office to prevail over this malpractice and threat of violation of standards,” he urged, calling on the Commission to take immediate action and inform him of the steps being taken to address the matter.
The Electoral Commission had not yet publicly responded to the allegations at the time of publication.
