Obua attributed his defeat to what he described as “invisible, powerful NRM leaders” who allegedly supported the opposition candidate financially.

Government Chief Whip and NRM National Vice Chairperson for Northern Uganda, Denis Hamson Obua, has conceded defeat in the Ajuri County parliamentary race, losing to Uganda People’s Congress (UPC) candidate Fred Jalameso by a margin of 700 votes.

Speaking to Nile Post at Parliament, Obua acknowledged the outcome while advising fellow MPs to continue fulfilling their constitutional duties until the new Parliament is sworn in May.

However, Obua dismissed speculation about filing an election petition.

“I have no plans to petition the election result; I accept the verdict of the people,” he stated.

The January 27, 2026, election saw the seasoned politician lose to a relatively unknown classroom teacher, marking a significant upset in the constituency.
