The National Resistance Movement (NRM) has completed a historic political sweep in Kasese District after its flag bearer, Muhindi Bukombi Eliphaz, retained the Local Council V (LCV) chairmanship seat, finalizing victories across both parliamentary and local government leadership.
According to Kasese District Returning Officer Godfrey Mbabazi, Muhindi secured 83,794 votes, defeating two other candidates in a closely watched race.
His closest challenger, Godfrey Bigogo Sibendire of the Forum for Democratic Change (FDC), polled 73,111 votes, while Abdul Saad of the People’s Freedom Front (PFF) came third with 5,917 votes.
Electoral Commission records show that a total of 162,822 valid votes were cast in the district. Additionally, 2,304 ballot papers were rejected as invalid, bringing the total counted ballots to 165,126, alongside 263 spoilt ballots.
In line with Section 147 of the Local Governments Act, Cap. 138, the Returning Officer declared Muhindi Bukombi Eliphaz the duly elected LCV Chairperson for Kasese District after obtaining the highest number of valid votes.
Eliphaz’s victory completes what NRM leaders describe as the party’s “full equation” in Kasese. The ruling party now holds all six parliamentary seats in the district in addition to the LCV chairmanship, marking a notable political turnaround in an area historically regarded as an opposition stronghold.
Political analysts say the results signal a major shift in Kasese’s political landscape, with NRM consolidating control over both legislative and executive leadership at the district level.
As celebrations continue among NRM supporters, residents are now focused on governance, service delivery, and the fulfillment of campaign pledges, as Muhindi begins another term with a strengthened political mandate.
