MP Ndiwalana Suffers Bruising Defeat in Bukomansimbi North

By | January 20, 2026

The incumbent Bukomansimbi North Member of Parliament, Christine Ndiwalana Nandagire, has lost her seat after finishing third in the closely contested 2026 general elections.

Ndiwalana, who was elected to Parliament in 2021 on the National Unity Platform (NUP) ticket, failed to retain the seat amid stiff competition from the National Resistance Movement (NRM) and the Justice Forum (JEEMA).

The Bukomansimbi North race attracted eight candidates, although the contest largely narrowed to three main contenders: Ndiwalana of NUP, Salim Kiseka of NRM, and Muhammad Kateregga of JEEMA.

According to results released by the Electoral Commission, Kiseka won the seat after polling 9,037 votes.

Kateregga finished second with 7,100 votes, while Ndiwalana placed third with 7,090 votes, missing second position by a margin of just 10 votes.

The result marks a sharp reversal of fortunes for Ndiwalana, who won the seat in the 2021 elections with 9,617 votes during the height of NUP’s popularity in the district.

Kateregga, who finished second in the 2026 race, had placed fourth in the 2021 elections with 3,076 votes, underscoring shifting voter preferences in the constituency.

Political analysts say the outcome reflects changing political dynamics in Bukomansimbi District, where the ruling NRM appears to have regained ground after suffering losses in the previous election cycle.

Following the announcement of results, Ndiwalana rejected the outcome declared by the Bukomansimbi District Returning Officer, Betty Kyomugyereko, alleging that the electoral process was marred by violence.

She claimed that some voters and her polling agents were assaulted in what she described as a deliberate attempt to influence the outcome of the election.
