Sudan’s Chairman of the Transitional Sovereignty Council, Lieutenant General Abdel Fattah al-Burhan, has congratulated President Museveni on his re-election, underscoring what Sudanese authorities described as strong and enduring relations between Khartoum and Kampala.
According to a statement issued by the Transitional Sovereignty Council Media Office, Lt. Gen. al-Burhan placed a telephone call to President Museveni on Saturday to convey official congratulations on behalf of both the Sudanese government and the Sudanese people following Uganda’s recent presidential election.
During the call, al-Burhan praised the conduct of Uganda’s elections, describing the process as having been carried out “in an atmosphere of calm and stability.”
He extended congratulations not only to President Museveni personally but also to the Ugandan electorate, saying the outcome reflected national order and continuity.
“The Chairman of the Sovereignty Council conveyed the congratulations of the Sudanese government and people to the Ugandan people on the successful electoral process,” the statement said.
Al-Burhan also highlighted the longstanding ties between Sudan and Uganda, noting that the two countries enjoy close cooperation across a range of areas, including political engagement, security matters, and regional affairs.
He pointed to “the strong ties that bind the two friendly nations,” adding that Sudan and Uganda have maintained collaboration in various fields over the years, although the statement did not specify particular areas of ongoing cooperation.
Sudan and Uganda have historically worked together on regional security, trade, and diplomatic initiatives within East and Northeast Africa, often coordinating positions through regional and continental forums.
The congratulatory message comes as Sudan continues to navigate a complex political transition, with the Transitional Sovereignty Council remaining a central authority in state affairs. Analysts say such diplomatic outreach is often used to reaffirm external partnerships and regional stability during periods of internal transition.
No immediate response from President Museveni or State House was included in the statement. However, the call signals continuity in Sudan–Uganda relations following Uganda’s latest electoral cycle.
The Transitional Sovereignty Council Media Office said the communication reflects Sudan’s commitment to strengthening bilateral relations and advancing mutual cooperation with Uganda in the period ahead.
