Police in Lira City are investigating the disappearance of 33-year-old comedian Solomon Odyek, popularly known as Ajoka Alango, whose home was found ransacked, amid claims that the case may have political undertones.
The incident was reported to Lira City East Division Police on January 5, 2026, by Monica Adong, a 34-year-old businesswoman from Anywalonino Cell in Lira City West Division.
Police believe the disappearance occurred on January 4 at an unspecified time.
Neighbours discovered Odyek’s house open on the morning of January 5 around 81m, with the door curtain pulled down and household items scattered.
“The house was found in disarray, which raises suspicion that there could have been a struggle before the victim disappeared,” said SP Patrick Jimmy Okema, North Kyoga Region Police spokesperson.
Efforts to reach Odyek via his known mobile phone were unsuccessful. Police reported that a mobile phone, a hoofer, a laptop, and a camera stand were missing from the house.
Betty Amongi, the Gender Minister and Lira City Woman MP candidate on the Uganda People’s Congress (UPC) ticket, said Odyek was part of her media team and described his disappearance as suspicious.
“Ajoka Alango has been working as part of my media personnel. Given the current political environment, we strongly suspect that his disappearance could be politically motivated,” Amongi said, urging security agencies to expedite investigations.
Police cautioned the public against speculation, describing the case as a disappearance with possible aggravated robbery.
“We are investigating to establish the whereabouts of the victim and apprehend any suspects involved,” SP Okema said.
Officers visited and documented the scene, recorded statements from the complainant and neighbours, deployed a sniffer dog, and conducted searches around the premises.
During the search, police recovered two finger rings and two unidentified mobile phones — one smartphone and one Tecno button phone without a battery or SIM card — now held as evidence.
SP Okema appealed for calm and public cooperation.
“We call upon anyone with information that may help this investigation to share it quietly with the police. More details will be communicated as inquiries continue,” he said.
