Addressing a recent rally, King Saha dismissed reliance on the Electoral Commission chairperson, Justice Simon Byabakama, as the January polls approach, revealing that the party has set up its own parallel tallying system.

He said NUP is prepared to announce results independently if the Electoral Commission delays or fails to release official outcomes.

“I am standing here to tell all of you that we already bought calculators and we shall tally these votes by ourselves. We shall go ahead to declare ourselves winners if Byabakama fails to do so because we are competent enough to gather votes across the country as they come in,” King Saha told supporters.

While NUP insists on its parallel system, the Ugandan Constitution vests the Independent Electoral Commission with the sole legal authority to officially declare election results.

King Saha’s statements reflect the party’s determination to remain active and vocal in the electoral process, highlighting concerns over timely announcement of official results.
