President Museveni has urged the people of Ankole to continue supporting the National Resistance Movement (NRM) as it implements long-standing development initiatives across the region.
Speaking at his final rally in Rubirizi District during a tour of Ankole, Museveni invoked a local Runyankore blessing, “Kazaare, okatung’ente norutookye”, which signifies prosperity, encouraging communities to embrace progress through collective effort.
Reflecting on the region’s transformation, Museveni highlighted a story of a local woman who, despite living alongside the tarmac road for 65 years, never owned an animal or a business until the Poverty Eradication and Development Model (PDM) reached her.
He emphasized that infrastructure improvements—such as roads, electricity, healthcare, and educational facilities—have been central to lifting livelihoods.
“As I conclude my tour of Ankole, highlighting seven of the many building blocks that the NRM has established, I urge our people to support us as we work to implement this ancient wisdom,” Museveni said.
He also cautioned against distractions that could derail the region from the proven path of development.
The president thanked the people of Ankole for their consistent support, stressing that ongoing plans aim to sustain and expand progress in the district and beyond.
Before Rubirizi, Museveni and his team held their first rally of the day in Mitooma District.
He highlighted government support for large-scale farmers through a fertiliser fund, which will be consolidated further in the next term.
He also spoke on ongoing infrastructure projects, noting that the Ishaka–Kashenshero road will be extended to Rukungiri.
Addressing local concerns about wild animals destroying crops, Museveni directed the Uganda Wildlife Authority to install an electric fence around Imaramagambo Forest.
On wealth creation, he reminded residents that development begins at the household level, urging participation in government programs that lift families out of poverty.
“This money is yours. We preached wealth creation as far back as the 1960s with the Otafiires, and we put it clearly in the 1996 Manifesto,” Museveni said.
