NRM, NUP Supporters Clash in Luweero
A campaign trail confrontation in Luweero turned violent after NUP and NRM supporters clashed at Kakuuto, leaving two men injured and a vehicle destroyed, with police now investigating the escalating political tensions.

Tensions escalated in Luweero District on Monday after supporters of the National Unity Platform (NUP) and the National Resistance Movement (NRM) violently clashed during campaign activities in Katikamu North Constituency, leaving at least two people seriously injured and a vehicle extensively damaged.

A police statement issued by Savannah Region PRO ASP Sam Twiineamazima indicated that the confrontation erupted at around 7pm at Kakuuto.

Earlier in the day, Katikamu North MP Denis Sekabira of NUP had held a peaceful rally at the same venue.

The situation deteriorated when NRM flag bearer Gadaffi Nasur arrived with his supporters, triggering an immediate altercation.

“The event was calm until supporters of the two rival candidates met at the same venue and a fight broke out,” ASP Twiineamazima said.

“Our preliminary findings show the clash was reportedly a retaliation for an earlier attack between the groups the previous day in Butuntumula.”

Police further reported that the violence spread beyond the venue. Along Kasiso Road, the campaign convoy of Agnes Kirabo, the NRM flag bearer for the Luweero Woman MP seat, was caught up in the chaos while returning from a rally in Kamira Sub County.
