President Yoweri Museveni on Thursday began the Ankole Sub-Region campaign in Isingiro District, telling supporters that Uganda’s hard-won peace remains the foundation of all development efforts.
Joined by senior NRM leaders, Museveni used the rally to introduce the party’s 2026–2031 Manifesto and to reflect on the region’s transformation over the past four decades.
The President said he was grateful that he can now move through Isingiro wearing the yellow party colours rather than carrying weapons, recalling years of conflict in which he regularly passed through Ankole while fighting.
“I thanked God that I can now come here wearing yellow and not carrying guns. In 1972, 1979 and 1985, whenever I passed through this area, I was fighting. Today, we meet peacefully, singing and dancing. I thank God and the NRM for restoring this peace,” Museveni said.
Turning to infrastructure, he highlighted completed projects including the Mbarara–Kikagate–Isingiro and Kagitumba–Kabale–Ntungamo roads, saying they have opened up the region to trade, movement and agricultural production.
He assured residents that the remaining priority roads will also be constructed.
“The remaining roads include Kikagate–Kitwe–Mirama Hill and the Kabingo–Rwekubo–Rugaaga–Rwangabo–Endiinzi–Magabi–Rakai–Mutukula route, along with Kabingo–Mutukula. We shall work on all of them,” Museveni said.
The President framed the manifesto as a continuation of the NRM’s long-term agenda—anchored on security, economic transformation and improved service delivery across the country.
