The Independent Electoral Commission (EC) has responded to complaints from Kitagwenda District Chairperson (LC5) aspirant Innocent Gucubwa regarding delays in delivering a ruling on his failed nomination.
Gucubwa, represented by M/S Natala & Co. Advocates, wrote to the Commission on November 11, 2025, expressing frustration over what he perceived as a lack of timely feedback after appearing before the EC to challenge the decision that barred his nomination.
In an interview with the Nile Post, EC spokesperson Julius Musinguzi dismissed claims of deliberate delay, emphasizing that the Commission follows due process before issuing any decision.
“The Commission delivers its decision on any petition when it has concluded it,” Musinguzi said. “All those who appear before the Commission are informed accordingly.”
He further stressed that the EC operates independently, and no individual can compel it to issue a ruling prematurely.
“Decisions from the Commission are not extracted by force,” he added.
Gucubwa had hoped to contest for the District Chairperson seat (LC5) but was denied nomination on grounds he later sought to challenge.
His petition remains under consideration as the EC completes its internal processes.
