Gen Muntu Winds Up Teso Campaign, Urges Voters to Choose Honest Leadership

The Alliance for National Transformation (ANT) presidential flag bearer, Gen Mugisha Muntu, concluded his campaign trail in Teso on Thursday with rallies in Kumi and Bukedea, calling on voters to support disciplined, honest leaders capable of delivering Uganda’s political and economic transformation.

Speaking to enthusiastic crowds in Ongino Town Council, Kumi Municipality, and Bukedea, Muntu emphasized that Uganda’s potential—encompassing vast mineral wealth, fertile soils, and newly discovered rare earth minerals—can only be realized under leaders committed to integrity and service.

“The only way out is to have disciplined men and women at the top,” he said. “As long as politics is about self-interest, problems will only increase.”

Muntu urged voters to retire President Yoweri Museveni in the January 15 elections, saying, “Once we retire him, we must choose honest leaders who can manage politics, the economy, and security.”

He also sought to distinguish himself from the incumbent, recalling that he rejected a cabinet position in 1998 after being removed from army command, and stating, “In terms of character, I am on the North Pole, he is on the South Pole.”

Highlighting corruption as a nationwide problem, Muntu said, “Leaders are taking bribes from young people of the same ethnic group. Ethnic identity does not make people similar. It is character that matters.”

During his visits, Muntu heard concerns about poverty, unemployment, healthcare gaps, and unresolved cattle compensation, citing an example of a young man in Ongino whose family lost cattle and compensation payments disappeared.

He warned that hopelessness among youths is driving alcoholism and self-destructive behavior, stressing the need to restore hope through honest governance.

Muntu concluded by reaffirming ANT’s commitment to building a leadership network rooted in transparency, teamwork, and zero tolerance for corruption.

“With God’s will and support of Ugandans, we shall build a new chapter where every Ugandan can earn honestly,” he said, urging the Teso region to stay focused on achieving change through democratic participation.
