A political aspirant in Kitagwenda District has protested what he calls an “unfair and financially draining delay” by the Electoral Commission (EC) to deliver a ruling on his nomination complaint, which has now dragged on for months.
Innocent Gucubwa, who sought nomination for the position of District Chairperson (LC5), says the Commission frustrated or denied his nomination, prompting him to lodge a formal complaint earlier this year.
According to his lawyers, M/S Natala & Co. Advocates, the EC heard the matter and promised to deliver its decision “on notice”, a promise yet to be fulfilled.
In a letter dated November 11, 2025, addressed to the EC Chairperson, the law firm expressed frustration over what they described as a delay that has left their client stranded in Kampala, where he has been making repeated follow-ups.
“Our client’s nomination was frustrated and or denied nomination for the post of Chairperson L.C.5 Kitagwenda District, and he immediately lodged a complaint to the Commission. The same was heard and the decision was promised on notice,” the lawyers wrote.
The letter notes that Mr. Gucubwa personally visited the Commission offices on October 27, 2025, and was informed that the ruling would be delivered within that week, which ended on November 2, 2025. However, no decision has been communicated to date.
“Today we have so far moved half a month of November and no proper response from the Commission regarding our client’s ruling,” the lawyers said.
“This has not only drained him financially as he has to keep footing bills for remaining within Kampala, but has also made him genuinely think that no attention is being given to his matter.”
With campaigns for district leadership positions underway, Mr. Gucubwa fears that further delays could cost him the chance to contest.
“Campaigns for the position he intended to contest have almost started, and this casts unwavering doubt about his fate,” the lawyers added.
The law firm has formally asked the EC to urgently issue a copy of the ruling or decision on the matter.
The Electoral Commission had not commented on the complaint by press time.
