Amama Mbabazi Urges Bunyoro Residents to Support Museveni, NRM for Development

By | November 10, 2025

Former Prime Minister John Patrick Amama Mbabazi has urged people in Kagadi and the wider Bunyoro sub-region to recognise the accomplishments of the NRM government and back President Museveni in the 2026 general elections to sustain Uganda’s socio-economic transformation.

Speaking as the guest of honor at the ordination of Archdeacon Elisha Okello at Naigana Archdeaconry in Kagadi District, Mbabazi highlighted NRM’s development record in the region and nationwide.

He stressed that such achievements should be reciprocated through the electorate supporting visionary leadership like President Museveni.

Mbabazi also reflected on his own role in Uganda’s political history, noting his work alongside key NRM leaders in advancing rule of law, constitutional governance, and national development.

“I’m among the key founders of the NRM government along with Dr Ruhakana Rugunda and President Museveni," he said.

"I have served as Prime Minister from 2011 to 2014, Security Minister (2006–2011), Minister of Defence (2001–2006), Attorney General (2004–2005), Director of External Security Organization (1986–1992), and I contested the presidency in 2016.

"In 2019, President Museveni appointed me as a special envoy to South Sudan and Ethiopia. I know where Uganda has come from and the path we need to sustain."

Mbabazi encouraged residents to promote unity, peace, and development achieved under NRM, urging them to reject sectarianism based on politics, tribe, religion, or ethnicity.

The Bishop of Bunyoro Kitara Diocese, Rt. Rev. Jacob Atairweho, who officiated the ordination, appealed to politicians to prioritize peace, reconciliation, and forgiveness over personal interests.

Quoting the book of St. James 3:1–12, he warned: “The tongue is small, but if not used properly, it can ruin your life. It has great power for both good and evil.”

Newly ordained Archdeacon Elisha Okello called on Christians to avoid political violence, hatred, and division, advocating for reconciliation and peace-building.

Kagadi Woman MP Jennifer Mbabazi rallied women in Bunyoro to support President Museveni to continue transformational programs, citing initiatives such as skilling hubs, the Four Acre Model Farms, and parish development models.

Buyaga East MP Eric Musana urged voters to elect visionary leaders who focus on community development and reject opportunists pursuing personal gain over public interest.
