Retired army officer Brigadier Emmanuel Rwashande has dismissed allegations linking him to a plot against Lwemiyaga County MP Theodore Ssekikubo, saying no one can harm the legislator except through protection.
Speaking from his home in Ntusi, Sembabule District, Brig. Rwashande described the claims as baseless and politically motivated.
“No one can harm Ssekikubo unless it is by providing him security,” he said. “He still has many pending court cases to answer, and only protection can help him live to face them.”
The statement comes amid a long-standing political rivalry between Rwashande and Ssekikubo, which began early last year when Rwashande and his allies launched a campaign to unseat the legislator.
The tensions escalated during the launch of the Lwemiyaga Transformation Campaign, an initiative aimed at removing Ssekikubo from parliament, which was marked by confrontations between his supporters and security personnel.
Rwashande also dismissed claims that the Uganda People’s Defence Forces (UPDF) deployed in Lwemiyaga were sent at his request.
“Those claiming that I brought soldiers to Lwemiyaga are lying. The army is here to keep law and order during the election period. They will only leave after elections are done,” he said.
He cautioned the MP to avoid reckless behavior, warning that provoking security forces could lead to his arrest.
Efforts to reach Hon. Theodore Ssekikubo for comment were unsuccessful, as his phone was switched off.
