Rubanda Woman MP Race Heats Up as Akampurira and Kikafunda Go Head-to-Head

By | October 27, 2025

The political atmosphere in Rubanda District is intensifying as two seasoned women prepare to face off for the Woman Member of Parliament seat in the 2026 general elections.

Incumbent Prossy Mbabazi Akampurira, who has served two consecutive terms, is seeking a third term.

Known for her grassroots mobilization and district-wide development projects, Akampurira remains confident that her track record will secure continued support from Rubanda voters.

Her main challenger, Evelyn Ninsiima Kikafunda, has been a familiar figure in Rubanda politics since the district’s creation in 2016.

She has consistently championed sustainable development initiatives and maintained a loyal following despite previous electoral defeats.

Although Kikafunda lost in the NRM primaries on May 17, she has vowed to continue her political journey as an independent candidate.

She argues that her vision for Rubanda’s development transcends party affiliations and emphasizes practical solutions for the district’s growth.

As the campaign season approaches, voters are closely watching the race between these two determined contenders.

With both candidates enjoying substantial grassroots support, the Rubanda Woman MP contest is expected to be one of the most closely watched and competitive elections in the Kigezi sub-region.
