The Mityana District Woman Member of Parliament, Joyce Bagala Ntwatwa, has been officially nominated to defend her seat as an independent candidate in the upcoming general elections.
Bagala’s nomination follows her fallout with the National Unity Platform (NUP), which declined to grant her a party ticket.
Speaking shortly after her nomination at the Singo County Headquarters, where the Electoral Commission is conducting the exercise, Bagala reaffirmed her commitment to serving the people of Mityana beyond party politics.
“I am going forward as an independent because my loyalty is to the people of Mityana, not to party politics,” she said.
“I will continue to serve all my constituents equally and work towards the transformation we have been fighting for.”
Bagala said her next term, if re-elected, will focus on advancing social and economic transformation in Mityana, stressing that the district has great potential if leaders put service delivery before political interests.
“This time, I am focusing on real change—empowering women and youth, improving education and healthcare, and ensuring that development reaches every corner of our district,” she said.
“We have achieved a lot, but we can do even more when we put politics aside and work together.”
The legislator also called on fellow politicians in Mityana to avoid divisive campaigns and focus on issues that affect citizens.
“Let’s stop politics of hatred and division,” Bagala advised. “I call upon all candidates and their supporters to respect each other. The people of Mityana deserve mature and issue-based leadership.”
She urged voters to renew their trust in her so she can complete the development projects initiated during her first term. “I still have unfinished work in Parliament,” she said.
“With your continued support, I will complete what we started together—building schools, supporting farmers, empowering women, and ensuring that Mityana becomes a model of growth.”
Outside the nomination centre, some of her supporters praised her as a resilient and people-centred leader who has remained close to her community despite political setbacks.
The Electoral Commission is expected to announce the official campaign period soon, paving the way for what observers say could be one of the most competitive races in Mityana District.
