The nomination of candidates for parliamentary seats in the Ma’di Sub-region began on Wednesday with several prominent political figures clearing the first hurdle in their bids to join the 12th Parliament.

In Adjumani District, the Second Deputy Prime Minister and incumbent Adjumani West County MP, Gen. Moses Ali, 83, was officially nominated by Returning Officer Akao Eunice Christine to defend his seat on the ruling NRM ticket.

Gen. Ali arrived at the Electoral Commission offices under tight security and later led a jubilant procession through Adjumani Town Council before retiring to his home in Abiricaku Village.

Earlier in the day, Patrick Tandrupasi, the Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) flag bearer, was also nominated to contest for the Adjumani West County seat, setting up a competitive race between the ruling party and the opposition.

The incumbent Woman Member of Parliament, Jessica Ababiku, was similarly nominated on the NRM ticket to seek re-election and continue representing women in Adjumani District.

In Adjumani East County, incumbent MP James Mamawi was nominated as an independent candidate, while Dulu Mark Angel will contest on the NRM ticket.

Across in Moyo District, former National Animal Genetic Resources Centre Executive Director Dr. Charles Lagu was nominated as an independent candidate for the Moyo West County seat, rounding up a diverse field on the opening day.

As campaigns approach, candidates across the Ma’di Sub-region have pledged to prioritize infrastructure development, youth employment, and improved social services in their constituencies.
