NRM presidential candidate Yoweri Museveni is set to kick off his campaign in the Acholi sub-region this afternoon.
The president, who has been touring the country beginning with Lango and West Nile, will hold his first rally at Pabbo Primary School in Amuru District.
As Museveni makes his entry into Acholi, residents are looking for answers on issues raised during previous campaigns.
Key concerns include the Balaalo grazing conflicts, the unresolved Apaa land dispute, persistent poverty, and the outstanding claims of war debt and LRA war victims.
During past campaigns at the same venue, the president promised to resolve the Apaa land conflict, instructing the late Speaker Jacob Oulanyah to oversee inquiries, and issued multiple executive orders regarding the Balaalo.
Area MP Anthony Akol said he will remind the president of key pledges yet to be fulfilled. “I will personally remind the president of his promises.
It has been a long wait, but I believe the NRM will listen to people’s concerns, protect past gains, and deliver on outstanding commitments,” Akol said.
NRM Secretary General Richard Todwong noted that while Acholi has made progress under the party, residents are seeking more.
“We have listened to the people over the years. We shall remind the president to address compensation and poverty issues for the region, which has already shown support for him,” Todwong said.
Each district in Acholi is expected to present a memorandum outlining previous pledges and new expectations for the president during his campaign.
