The Judiciary has commissioned the newly constructed Serere Chief Magistrate’s Court building in a move aimed at strengthening access to justice and improving service delivery in the Teso sub-region.
The commissioning ceremony, held at the court premises under the theme “Justice that Listens, Serves and Resolves,” was presided over by Principal Judge Jane Frances Abodo as chief guest.
Upon arrival, Lady Justice Abodo inspected a guard of honour before being received by Resident Judge of Soroti, Justice Boniface Wamala, Judiciary spokesperson HW James Ereemye, Deputy Registrar HW Emmy Sayekwo, and magistrates attached to Serere Chief Magistrate’s Court, among others.
The ceremony featured the unveiling of a commemorative plaque officially marking the commissioning of the new facility.
In a symbolic gesture, the Principal Judge together with Justice Wamala planted a “Tree of Justice” within the court premises, underscoring the Judiciary’s commitment to fairness, accountability and public trust.
Lady Justice Abodo later inspected the newly constructed court building, guided by Senior Regional Executive Engineer Mr Samuel Natudde, representing the Acting Commissioner of the Engineering and Technical Services Department.
As part of her visit, she also inspected key justice and security institutions in Serere District, including the Central Police Station, the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions and the Office of the Resident State Attorney.
Earlier in the day, stakeholders in the criminal justice chain held a joint sensitisation session aimed at improving public awareness of justice processes and strengthening coordination among justice institutions in the district.
Judiciary officials said the new court building is expected to improve working conditions for judicial officers and bring justice services closer to residents of Serere and the wider Teso sub-region.
