Buganda Kingdom Enhances Healthcare Access with Tubeere Balamu Initiative

This new initiative is part of the kingdom’s ongoing efforts to promote healthy living and bring medical services closer to the people of Buganda.
MITYANA — In a bold move to improve healthcare access across Buganda, the Kabaka Foundation has launched the Tubeere Balamu Community Outreach program in Ssingo County, Mityana District.
This new initiative is part of the kingdom’s ongoing efforts to promote healthy living and bring medical services closer to the people of Buganda.
The launch event, held at the Ssaza Grounds in Mityana, featured a message from Kabaka Ronald Muwenda Mutebi II, delivered by Prince David Kintu Wasajja.
In his address, the Kabaka underscored the importance of regular medical check-ups and preventive healthcare, urging his people to prioritise their health.
“As the Kabaka Foundation had promised, this health camp has been set up in Ssingo County as part of our ongoing efforts to ensure that healthcare services reach all our people across Buganda’s counties,” the Kabaka stated.
“We appreciate the people of Ssingo for embracing this initiative.”
The Tubeere Balamu Community Outreach program, which aims to expand healthcare access throughout the kingdom, has already been implemented in three counties, with Ssingo being the most recent beneficiary.
The initiative is made possible through partnerships with medical institutions, the private sector, and religious leaders, all working together to enhance healthcare services in the region.
During the health camp, medical experts identified several critical health concerns affecting the population, including the rising prevalence of prostate cancer among men over 40, increasing cases of cervical cancer, particularly among women, and the growing incidence of sickle cell disease.
These findings highlight the need for regular medical check-ups and early detection, which can significantly improve health outcomes.
The success of the Tubeere Balamu initiative is largely attributed to the collaborative efforts between Buganda Kingdom and its development partners, with religious leaders from various faiths playing a key role in mobilising communities to participate.
The involvement of local leadership in Ssingo County also ensured a strong turnout at the event.
As non-communicable diseases continue to pose a significant health challenge, the Kabaka called on his people to embrace preventive healthcare and take advantage of the Tubeere Balamu program for medical screening and treatment.
“We continue to urge all our people to embrace good health practices and take advantage of this initiative by seeking medical attention whenever necessary,” the Kabaka’s message read.
Buganda Kingdom’s commitment to improving public health remains unwavering.
The Kabaka Foundation plans to extend the Tubeere Balamu Community Outreach program to more counties in the future, further advancing the kingdom’s mission of promoting healthy living and well-being across its territories.
