Nsambya Hospital Expands Eye Care Services
Kampala – Nsambya Hospital has raised concern over the increasing cases of eye diseases in Uganda, citing a surge in patients seeking treatment.
The hospital, which has been receiving over 50 eye patients daily, has been struggling with congestion, prompting the expansion of its eye care facility.
During the launch of a new eye care unit, the hospital’s Executive Director, Dr. Andrew Muyingo Ssekitoleko, said the expansion would enable the facility to provide quality treatment for up to 2,000 patients per day.
He emphasized the importance of early eye check-ups, warning that delayed diagnosis often leads to severe complications.
The ceremony was officiated by former Lions International President Dr. Patti Hill, alongside Lions International District 411B (Uganda).
District Governor Benon Kataate urged Ugandans to prioritize regular eye screenings to prevent vision-related ailments.
Dr. Hill reaffirmed the Lions Club's commitment to enhancing healthcare in Uganda, aligning their efforts with the organization’s mission to support vulnerable communities.
Professor Fred Ssengoba, Clchairman of Nsambya Hospital’s Board of Directors, described the growing burden of eye diseases in the country as alarming.
With the new unit now operational, Nsambya Hospital hopes to reduce congestion and improve access to specialized eye treatment, offering much-needed relief to patients.
