The Uganda People's Defence Forces (UPDF) has received a level II hospital storage facility from the US government.

The facility is located at the Uganda Rapid Deployment Capability Centre (URDCC) in Jinja Cantonment, Gaddafi Barracks.

During the handover ceremony, Brigadier General Peter Gaetano Omola, Commandant of URDCC, expressed gratitude for the long-standing bilateral relations between Uganda and the United States.

He thanked the US government for its ongoing support in building UPDF's capacity and capabilities.

“On behalf of the Chief of Defence Forces (UPDF), I take this opportunity to thank the U.S. government for the unwavering support to the UPDF and URDCC, particularly in terms of capacity and capability building," Brig Gen Omola sais

"We are able to do what we are doing now because of the support from the U.S. government. This has come a long way, and we can't take it for granted."

He said the facility is fully complete and underscored its importance in enhancing medical capabilities.

Lieutenant-Colonel Christian Noumba, US defence advisor to Uganda, said the US remains focused on building medical capabilities in peacekeeping operations.

He noted that this investment will play a significant role in UPDF's mission within the African Union Transition Mission in Somalia.
