Covid kills two in Kabale

Two patients have succumbed to  covid-19 at Kabale Regional Referral hospital, this website has learnt.

The deceased were some of the patients admitted at the hospital early this month with Covid symptoms.

“From the period of festive season, early January 2024 we started seeing a number of patients presenting signs and symptoms consistently with covid-19 which prompted the physicians to do some tests," Dr. Gilbert Mateeka, District health Officer Kabale district said.

“Initially we registered five cases but as the month of January went on, we registered over 20 cases and two deaths."

He however noted that most of the 20 were managed as outpatients since they had mild illnesses that didnt require admission.

Dr. Mateeka highlighted that the main challenge they are facing is that the public thinks that covid-19 is no more adding that as the health office in the district they will continue sensisting people about the deadly virus and the need to observe standard operating procedures.

He also urged members of the public to get vaccinated and those who did should get booster doses.

As of November 2023,72, %of the people worldwide had received at least one dose of covid-19 vaccine, with 13.6 billion does administered around the world preventing severe illness and hospitalized for millions of people.
