Ibanda University has inaugurated a new Governing Council to steer its strategic direction for the next four years, with former Inspector General of Police,  Kale Kayihura, appointed as Chairperson of the Planning and Development Committee.

The inauguration ceremony, held on Monday, at AK Gardens Hotel in Ibanda Town, was officiated in the presence of university leaders, government officials, and community representatives.

According to Lawrence Mucunguzi, the University’s Public Relations Officer, Gen. Kayihura’s appointment brings a wealth of experience to the institution.

“General Kayihura's extensive background in national leadership, security, and strategic planning will be instrumental in guiding the university’s growth,” Mucunguzi said.

In his new role, Gen. Kayihura will spearhead initiatives focused on physical and academic expansion. This includes infrastructure development, innovation hubs, and the planning of future academic programs.

“I am honoured to serve in this capacity and contribute to the growth of an institution that stands for academic excellence and community transformation,” said Gen. Kayihura during the inauguration.

The new Governing Council is chaired by Dr. Clementia Mureembe, who was re-elected for another term in recognition of her exemplary leadership and dedication to the university.

“This is a moment of renewed commitment. Together with our dynamic team, we shall continue building a university that shapes future leaders,” Dr. Mureembe affirmed.

Dr. John Busingye, Chairperson of the Board of Directors at Ibanda University, expressed gratitude to the outgoing council and optimism about the future.

“We are confident that the collective expertise of this new Governing Council,under the capable leadership of Dr. Mureembe and with Gen. Kayihura guiding our planning efforts,will greatly enhance the university’s vision of becoming a center of academic excellence and innovation,” he said.

The council comprises a diverse team of professionals from academia, public service, and cultural leadership. Members include:

Since its founding in 2014, Ibanda University has emerged as a leader among Uganda’s private institutions of higher learning. The university is driven by its mission to provide accessible, high-quality education while fostering innovation and community development.
